My name is Chris Kurnik, and I live in Reno, NV. I learned to cast a fly in the hot desert summer about four years ago. It took only a few months for pocket water and deep riffles to control my thoughts. I close my eyes and I see noses of monsters rising eating flies off the surfaces, indicators droppin', and the flash of a big rolling when they are hooked. I go to UNR where I am dual majoring in Biology and Biochemistry which will really help me when it comes to fishing, my friends remind me all the time. I will graduate in spring of 2012. Growing up I spent more time doing team sports and riding motorcycles than anything else, but over the past few years my interests have shifted to a more subterranean environment. My friends often joke about me only wanting to fish, and fish rivers where only monsters can be caught. This is simply not true, I just love fishing in every sense of the word. Whether that be a small reservoir, creek, river, lake, or any body of water that may hold fish. You may be like my family and wonder why I love fishing so much so Ill try to explain. Although the soft noise of a rapid 30 feet above you and the smooth reflection of blooming trees on the deep blue of a deep fishin whole may be hard to describe in their true beauty, I think I love fishing because of how it affects me. It is the only thing that can calm my nerves all while exciting me at the same time. I lose track of time but gain a sense of awareness that is unattainable under any other circumstance. It all boils down to the fact that fishing ain't always about the fishing, spend a few days on the river and I think you will know what I am talking about. I must add that hooking a monster might encourage me to fish a little also.
Contact me if you would like to hear about some of the great water in our area and guides I recommend.
