Timing is everything

I have been lucky enough to come across some runs in the past few weeks that have been spitting out big fish, and in good numbers too, yet these runs have also been a pain in my ass.  I fished east of town all day monday and ended up with one little sad bow that ate my fly most likely to try and get out of the water so it wouldn't be bait for some of the big boys.  On my way back to town I still had some light so I figured I would hit up one of the runs that my buddy showed me.  When I got there it was game on for the fish, but I was still trying to get loosened up from the slow day.  I broke off a 2 rigs right away with heavy line on some big fish, then lost a few more big fish, then landed some medium sized ones which seemed hardly meager to some of the ones that were just at my feet.  These past few days I have been getting calls from my buddies saying "its going off!" and I have gotten to the river just after it seems to have died down, like I said, pain in my ass.  The afternoon fishing for WTW has been a lot of tasty drifts without fish taking and has kinda been frustrating, especially when one of my buddies landed 18 this morning....18!!! can you believe that! I wish I couldn't but I know he is legit, which might make me a rookie if I am having slow days and hes killing it.  Hopefully he will be contributing to the site here shortly so look forward to some good fishing stories, especially because this guy gets to spend about 5 days on the river.  Him catching and me not, or myself catching and some buddies not just goes to show you that you never know what your gonna get when you head down to the river.  Timing has had a big influence on the activity of the fish.  I commented to a reader that on warmer days try to get out before noon, however according to my buddy its more like before 10.  Hope to see you on the river.
