Turf Wars
It is all too often the case where certain spots of a river popular by a variety of anglers and, as most of them are creatures of habit, you will continue to encounter those other people when you go back to that spot. Today I did not run into another angler- but rather, four different groups of duck hunters. If your gonna have a turf war, don't have one with a group of hunters. You see, fisherman can spread 100 ft apart and be as happy as a pig in poo without bothering each other too much, other than getting jealous when the other guy hooks up. With duck hunters, this is not the case. These guys sit there all day, gazing off in the distance looking for little black dots coming in, and trying not to lose their minds. If their decoy spread is off, or if they arent covered well enough, or god forbid a fisherman is downriver from them then the ducks wont come in. If there are hunters on the river near you, give them their space. It is likely that they have been there since four in the morning and are just about hating life, not to mention the fact that they will have to go home and eat their kill that tastes like the slime on the bottom of the truckee river. I have been in those hunters shoes too many times before, and I know how frustrating it can be to have a hunt spoiled by someone not paying attention. Today my fishing was cut short because the banks of the river in the restoration area were dotted with hunters. Despite the hinderance, I still managed to pull a little bow out. For some reason I though a 3" streamer would attract a bigger fish....
