1st fish
2nd fish
3rd fish
4th fish
5th fish
6th fish
I gotta admit, today was probably one of the best days I have had on the Truckee, and what a day to
forget my camera! I didnt start fishing until 3 and within 45 minutes I landed 4 bows, all of notable size. What a freakin day. Then, after a little more work, I landed another 2. All in all, 6 fish in 2 hours, not bad especially when it takes over 5 minutes to land these healthy fish on light tackle. Looking back to figure out what made today such a productive day, I honestly have to say that I am not sure. I was fishing deeper water with many riffles right over a deep shelf, and it seemed that the bows were stacked up right along the drop off. All of the fish I hooked came from the same 10 ft section of water and it was amazing that every time my indicator dropped, it was deep powerful throbs from heavy fish tuggin on the end of my line, rather than little dinkers that I am used to pulling out. I rarely expect that when I hook a fish, its gonna be a pig, but today I could almost count on it, all except one fish was big, fat, and healthy. Today I decided to give the switch rod a break and work on my nymphing tactics a little more. I was using a basic two fly set up with a stone and a midge. Its days like this that make the slow days worth the pain and frustration; on the truckee you really never know when its gonna produce, its just a matter of getting your time in on the river and getting lucky. Thanks to Matt for snapping some photos with his camera, hopefully I can he can send me some real photos of a few of the fish so you dont have to deal with my cell phone BS, I thought that thing was supposed to be like 6 megapixels, but I guess that was a lie. Anyway, hope you enjoy the lame pictures of the 6 from today.
