Stranded
I often wonder when I go frontier fishing about what I would do if I broke down or got hurt or how I would get back to the real world. Yesterday, unfortunately, I got my chance to answer one of these questions. A buddy and me went out with my camper to BFE and dropped the camper off at one spot, then drove 10 miles down a jeep trail to fish at another spot for the morning. We fished for about an hour and then decided to move spots. We went back to the truck, loaded up, and hoped in, then as I tried to start the car, my heart sank as the engine clicked and did not turn over. I have never seen another person down where we were broke down and the encroaching feeling of doom was demoralizing. We had a generator in my truck so we tried to hook it up to the battery to charge it, but the generator was old and did not have an inverter for DC power. After that failed attempt, and the basic clean the connection and wait, we remembered that we saw someone driving near our camper when we pulled in. All we could do was hope that they were still there. We took off on foot for the 8 mile journey (one way) and when we got there... we were still the alone. We began the long journey back to the truck and after 5 hours of hiking/running, when I had truly accepted that we might be spending a while down there and the evening was beginning to set in, we spotted a quad off in the distance. We ran as fast as we could, waiving our shirts and yelling, and after a minute of running after these guys, they spotted us. They drove us 20 miles to a ranch house where the caretaker drove us back and jumped my truck. Thank god for those people. All in all, some very good lessons learned, ones that I will not be forgetting any time soon. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention my buddy got this nice brown on a PT nymph.

That's gnarly man-- glad you made it out ok.
Where were you? (Details not necessary. I don't want to poach your spot. Just a general area.)
Thanks brian, and for those wondering we were one one of Nevada's 3 major rivers, if it was my spot I could give more details but I was grandfathered into this place and cannot say any more. As it warms up, be careful of snakes...seriously.
