Under This Montana Sky

I am here in southwest Montana celebrating Independence Day and doing a whole lot of fishing.  This year was an interesting time to be in montana because a late winter left the area in much more spring like conditions than summer.  The water is COLD! and I say that from a personal experience of going for a swim through it.  The bugs aren't hatching until the sun starts to warm up the water a little which makes for a nice time sleeping in every day.  Me and my buddies have landed a ton of fish, there a lot of fishing holes anywhere there is slow water.  We have found this spot that has a long bend with a deep bank that is slow enough for some dry fly fishing.  We have been hammering fish, yesterday morning I caught 15 before breakfast.  The days have been getting a lot warmer since we first got here and the bugs that were on the water when we arrived a week ago are no longer hatching, although there are exoskeletons all over the trees.  Early in this trip we were slaying fish on big black stones, like the skwalas in the truckee area.  Now we are hammering them on little yellow bugs, anything from PMD's to yellow stones and yellow caddis, any size from 12 to 18.  Get ready for a sweet video!!
