Hot and cold
This time of the year the temps get kinda funky. The mornings are always bitterly cold; some days warm up and some don't. We also get storms rolling through periodically which swings the temps even more. There are a million and one theories on how weather effects fishing so its up to you to pick and choose which ones you believe based on your experiences. I have heard them all from wind direction to the angle of the sun hitting to basically you name it, which can all be true under some circumstances. I believe that drastic, fast temperature swings poorly affect fishing, while steady weather enhances it, no matter what the conditions. Cloudy days are always better, light rain/snow after a long dry period gets the fish moving, while heavy weather blows the river out. The best fishing I have ever had on the truckee was last january. Not a single storm the entire month, highs were in the upper 40's in NV and for some reason every day I hit the river I got into big fish, the kind that ripped line and made you catch up by chasing them. Tell you what, cooler weather definitely puts the fight back into fish! But back to this time of year, great fishing should come around mid morning, and cloudy weather/light storms will only make it better. Heres a shot before I climbed up on my ladder out at warrior the other morning.
